Muscadet is made from a grape called Melon de Bourgogne, hardly fitting considering that the grape wasn’t used in Burgundy until very recently and even still is treated like a Fruitcake Log at the office Secret Santa party. The grape was ordered for destruction in Burgundy twice, once in the Sixteenth century and again in the Eighteenth century. All of this is without cause, because Muscadet works just fine as a dry white wine.
I bring it up here because Muscadet is the lock-of-the-week pairing for seafood, especially oysters and shellfish. Word is that seafood is something of a big deal here in Baltimore, so Muscadet with crabs on a picnic table will be great next to your melted butter and cans of Boh. Regarding white wine, you could do far worse for $10.
Of course, you can’t ship to Maryland because of our shipping laws. That’s quite a drag. Order some up from Vinfolio and have it shipped to your buddy in DC instead.
