My mother forwarded two articles printed on actual paper this week. The first reaches back to September of 2007: Demand for Maryland Wine is outpacing vineyard output. I guess Virginia isn’t the only state that just can’t grow them fast enough. The article glosses over a lot of points which is more of a testament to print vs. Internet media. This article is of worthy size in a county news paper, but looks paltry in a Web Browser.

This past Sunday, the slightly larger Baltimore Sun ran a piece of East Coasters putting custom wine cellars in their expensive homes. These wine cellars can be nuts in terms of amenities, from oak and cherry wine racks to $20,000 temperature control systems. They sure can look sweet though.

Cellars can cost as little as a few thousand dollars for a simple grotto or well into the six figures for an architectural statement, and they are as likely to hold inexpensive vintages as they are those valued at upwards of $2,000 a bottle.

My wine storage corner pales in comparison.
