Dropped into Charlotte’s in Federal Hill on Wednesday night to see a friend of a friend play some tunes. Turns out that, despite all appearances to the contrary, Charlotte’s runs wine tastings every Wednesday starting around 7pm. You get 5 wines for $5.25, each selected around a certain theme for the flight. The bartender is pretty generous with the pours, so you’re really getting your money’s worth. The wines are all sub-$20 wines and four of the five were absolutely worth drinking again. If finding values in that range is your thing (and it’s pretty much everyone’s thing) then it’s a good place to explore this price point.

Charlotte’s low slung ceiling, beer taps, and general bar smell doesn’t make it feel like a snobby wine establishment. It’s wine without pretentiousness, sometimes the best kind.

If you plan to drop by, call ahead and confirm. I’ve seen some ads online claiming the tastings to be held on Tuesday rather than Wednesday.
