New AVA Created, and It Isn’t Where You Would Expect

The people who create AVAs (American Viticultural Area) have ended the hiatus on AVA creation and anointed the Lehigh Valley AVA right up the road in Pennsylvania. Wines and Vines has a report on it, in which I found this blurb:

The Lehigh Valley proposal went through without a single public comment prior to the TTB’s deadline in January 2007. Many AVA proposals draw dozens or even hundreds of comments, positive and negative, from interested parties on either side (they all can be viewed at the TTB website).

Are they trying to say that nobody is interested in Pennsylvania wines? Maybe they were too busy redrawing the lines in Northern California to care about a big swath of land near Philadelphia.
