Took out my half bottle from the freezer last night and finished off the frozen wine experiment that I started back when I drank the Erik’s Big Zin from Basignani. The picture is of the wine thawing out on my counter with the frost developing on the outside (the only empty half bottle I had around was of something French).

I set the bottle out on the counter all day then drank a glass when the bottle was cool to the touch. In the glass, the ressurected wine smelled and looked how I remembered. Taste was a different story, because it tasted like it had been left out for a day or so, rusty and oxidized. Shame. The thawed batch went down the drain.

Looking forward to trying this again with something else. Next time I’ll fill the bottle up more and thaw the wine in the fridge rather than on the counter top.

  1. Funny stuff, I tried this before and ended up with similar results. I kept it in the freezer for three weeks, left it out a few hours to come to temperature, and the wine tasted terrible!

  2. We must be missing something. I hesitate to try with anything expensive and run the risk of blowing half a bottle of wine out.
