The Wife and I ate at Junior’s Wine Bar in Federal Hill a few months back and the experience was mediocre and fell short of the snoty-tooty blogworthy standards of this Blog.  Nothing was bad, but nothing blew me out of my chair and into my Merlot.

Things changed last week when I got a call from The Wife on her way home from work.  She’d just passed Junior’s and they had a new thing going with a flight of five wines for $10 and all sorts of cheeses and bread out to to try.  It turns out that Biff, the bartender that brought you $5 wine tastings at Charlotte’s, is now tending bar at Junior’s and brought his tastings with him.  Charlotte’s, sadly, is no more.  We hardly knew ye, which is probably why you didn’t stay open all that long.

At Junior’s, the bar area was crowded, the atmosphere was light and the pours were large as we tore through a tasting of five wines out of the Rhone valley in France.  All of the wines (two whites, a rose, and two reds) were priced for take-home under $12 a bottle. If you decide to shack up and eat dinner there, Junior’s has a full menu of small plates and entrees.
