Fondue? Fondont! Wine Spectator on Maryland and Virginia Wine Lists

Just in time for restaurant week in Baltimore and Washington DC, Wine Spectator pushed aside their vintage charts for a moment and released their list of the most triumphant wine lists in the country.

The only two-glass “Best of Award of Excellence” in Maryland went to Lewnes’ Steakhouse in Annapolis. They have over 400 wine selections available and according to the Wine Spectator blurb their prices are “Moderate.” Wine Spectator defines the Best of Award of Excellence as wine lists “displaying either vintage depth… or excellent breadth spread over several wine growing regions.” Lewnes’ Steakhouse was noted for their strengths in California and France.

Lots of Maryland restaurants picked up one glass “Awards of Excellence” including The Oceanaire Seafood Room (seconded by me) and all four Ruth’s Chris locations.

Down in Virginia, congratulations are in order for The Inn At Little Washington for earning a three-glass Grand Award, one of 73 handed out worldwide. The famous restaurant clocks in with 12,000 bottles, an “expensive” rating from Wine Spectator, and a prix fixe menu for around $150 per person. I’ve never been, but people say it is worth it.

Through it all, the undisputed winner in the Maryland-DC-Virginia region was…

wait for it…

The Melting Pot.

The Melting Pot!

Look, I love The Melting Pot. The food is good and I’m a fan of any place that pawns off the cooking on the customer and still gives them a bill. One location in Maryland and two locations in Virginia picked up one glass each. The Richmond, VA location was one of four in the state to be awarded a two glass “Best of Award of Excellence.” Looking for a fine wine list in Richmond? Hit The Melting Pot!
