The wine list at The Dogwood in Hamden takes care of pretty much everything I need out of a restaurant wine list. The restaurant itself takes care of the rest. Located right in the heart of Hamden on 36th St, Hon, The Dogwood uses all sorts of locally grown, certified organic, good-for-you fixins to turn out some delicious dishes. The crab soup (featuring actual crab!) is solid, high praise coming from me.
The Wine List carries the Deep Creek Cellars Artisan Red, a Maryland favorite of mine. We went with the Barbi Sangiovese. Barbi holds a special place in our hearts because The Wife and I had an appointment to visit the winery when we stayed in Montalcino but we couldn’t find the joint. Our language barrier was so great that nobody from the Tuscan countryside could provide adequate directions to us in our Smart Car.

My entire restaurant career started in Baltimore. I worked in the Inner Harbor, forget the name, and spent some of the best times as a waitress at the Museum Cafe, right around the corner from the Dogwood. It sounds great. It makes me miss Baltimore.
I’d go to the Dogwood right after having a crab cake sandwich at John Steven.
