This was supposed to be one of those run-off-the-mill wine blog posts.
1) I bought it
2) I drank it
3) I blogged about it
4) Post a picture (optional)
5) Profit!
I strive to inject humor and my own brand of witty repartee into the blog posts, but not this time. This time, I was going with page 1 of the wine blogger playbook. Drink and blog.
So I bought a bottle of Watershed Red Reserve from Deep Creek Cellars. I liked their Artisan Red, how far off could this one be? The grapes were similar. Both had a lot of Cabernet Franc. Both were sourced from the same areas. What could go wrong?
Everything went wrong. Step number 2 was halted in mid sip. The wine was bad. Not bad as in corked or mishandled, just bad as in bad. I usually make it through one glass just for sport even when the wine is terrible. I couldn’t even do that this time. My jaw was locked from the tart and astringency.
I’m almost positive my bottle was not off or spoiled, but I’m not going to spend another $19 to find out.
I’ve had some other horrific stuff from other wineries that I just didn’t write about because I felt bad about it. I don’t mind trashing this one though because, again, I really liked their Artisan Red and I guess it’s some sort of zen thing to like one wine and hate another.
