Guess Who Is Coming To Dinner: The Obligatory Thanksgiving Post
Anytime I ask the family what I can bring to Thanksgiving dinner, I always get the same response:
“Bring some wine!”
It makes sense. I’m the family “wine guy” carrying on the tradition of my aunt. Not counting the wee-ones, I’m the youngest and I’m a guy, so the automatic assumption is that I can’t cook. Fair enough.
So what do we pair with what? What goes with the weird cranberry-jello-thing that still has the impression of an aluminum can on the sides? What will I bring?
First, an old colleague suggested that you don’t pair wines with the turkey, you pair them with the sides. I don’t know what his dinners looked like, but mine look like a end-to-end representation of every flavor and cuisine known to man. Lesson: Drink what you like.
No, I don’t know what to pair with the creepy-cranberry-thing. Rose, perhaps? They’re both pink at least.
I’m bringing the following: 2003 Les Pagodes Des Cos, 2005 Scherrer Chardonnay Scherrer Vineyard, and 2006 La Crema Pinot Noir Los Carneros. Figured there’s something in there for everyone, even a late-night talk show host. A Bordeaux blend, a Chard and a Pinot walk into a bar…

The chosen few, uncorked for the joy of many
Finally, enough tasting of wine. Kick back, relax, and drink some wine. Have a good holiday weekend.

Pinot was my favorite of the three also. Full writeups coming this week.
