Some Recent Tasting Notes
With all my wines now stored safely in my wine fridge (as opposed to safely in off-site storage), we’ve been drinking well at Casa de Vinotrip. Here are some notes I’ve scribbled down.
2003 Drinkward Peschon – Cabernet Sauvignon Entre Deux Meres: This wine is a cult favorite. It sells out quickly and once it is gone you’re odds are long of ever finding it again. If you see it, nab it. It’s quality Napa Cab and discount Napa Cab prices. Bloggers wont be able to quip about Napa Cab prices much longer. After all the Napa cult icons go bust, there will be some good juice flowin’
Anyway, the tasting note:
Alcohol up front that blew off after a few hours of sitting around. Gave way to licorice and cassis on the nose. On the palette you’re getting a big ol’ Napa Cab experience. Not a fruit bomb, but some big, lush, crushed red fruit. Yum. Finish thins out but then lingers in your mouth. Whole thing needs time. If you’re opening one now, be prepared to drink it over a few hours.
2005 Scherrer – Chardonnay Scherrer Vineyard: Good citrus and floral aromas. Middleish yellow. Not too lush or buttery. Lots of oak which sort of ruined an otherwise pleasant experience. (This note, which is word-for-word what I wrote in my VinCellar, was marked by someone as having not been useful. Nice.)
2006 La Crema – Pinot Noir Carneros: Not bad. Oaky, smoky, ash on the nose. Alcohol and heat. Otherwise a nice middleweight feel. Good ruby color. Soft, sort-of elegant palette but the alcohol got in the way just a bit.
2003 Cos d’Estournel – Les Pagodes de Cos (St. Estephe): Disappointing. Deep purple color. Big, lush, jammy fruit. Otherwise not too memorable. Felt more like an overblown California Cabernet, not a Bordeaux.
2000 Bellevue (St. Emilion): Didn’t even enter a note for this in my Vincellar, just left a terse 85 and called it a day. The new wave of wine journalism, folks! Wine Spectator shivers anew. Could be worse, I could have Twittered it.
In other tasting note news, Chef Ed Matthews respectfully disagreed with my note on the 2006 White Hall Petit Verdot saying “[my] notes sound atypical.” In that case I’ll give the wine another go, perhaps this time from another merchant.

Maybe Vincellar needs a “I think this reviewer is smoking something” button in addition to the “useful” button. That way you could express your displeasure at what is clearly a helpful review without being a liar.

Yeah. Right next to “I found this useful” they could have a button reading “This review sucks” I would win.

I really like that 06 La Crema Pinot Noir as long as I can find it for less than $20. I guess I didn’t find it to be as hot as you did.
