About Château de Haute-Serre

Located on the hills above Cahors, Château de Haute-Serre is a historic estate closely linked to Malbec. After a long period of decline, the vineyard was brought back to life in 1971 by Georges Vigouroux, a pioneer in the revival of the great wines of Cahors.

Convinced of the exceptional potential of this terroir, he undertook a major restoration project: clearing the land, replanting the vineyard and building new cellars. Thanks to this ambitious work, Château de Haute-Serre regained its place among the leading estates of the appellation.

Today, the family story continues with Bertrand-Gabriel Vigouroux, the fourth generation of winemakers. Passionate about Cahors and Malbec, he carries on the estate’s reputation through elegant wines deeply rooted in their terroir.

  • The wines of Château de Haute-Serre

The wines of Château de Haute-Serre express the full richness of Malbec, the emblematic grape variety of Cahors. The estate produces characterful red wines, known for their structure, silky tannins, black fruit and spice aromas, and excellent ageing potential.
The Haute-Serre plateau, with its Kimmeridgian soils, blue clay and iron-rich elements, gives the wines depth, character and a distinctive identity. The estate offers several Malbec-based cuvées, including Château de Haute-Serre, Georges, Géron Dadine, Icône and Grand Malbec.
The château also explores other expressions of its terroir with more unusual cuvées, such as Albesco white wine, Cybèle rosé and Bellefleur de Haute-Serre, a sparkling rosé made using the traditional method from Malbec grapes.

  • Wine experiences at the estate

Château de Haute-Serre welcomes visitors for a complete introduction to its wine world. The tour includes the vineyard, the cellars and the specific terroir of Cahors, before ending with a guided tasting of the estate’s wines.
Tasting workshops are also available for guests who would like to explore Malbec in greater depth through a sensory and educational approach. Depending on your interests, the estate also offers more playful experiences, such as electric scooter rides through the vineyard, orienteering activities and gourmet moments at the Table Vigneronne.
