Château de Haute-Serre, 46230 Cieurac
The castle of Haute-Serre has been an abandoned place since the 19th century. It was once a property that produced one of the greatest wines in France until 1880. However, thanks to Georges Vigouroux, this place has regained its former splendor. In the early 1970s, this gentleman acquired this chateau to produce wine. After two years of hard work to clear the land and plant 160,000 vines of Malbec vines and to build a winery, the castle was like new.
Today, the Château de Haute-Serre is recognized as one of the best wine estates in the south-west of France and its first vintage AOC Cahors bottled in 1976 is considered one of the first Grands Crus of Cahors.
The adventure continues for the Vigouroux family because it is now the son of Georges Vigouroux, Bertrand-Gabriel who has taken over the business and who puts all his know-how to perpetuate the family tradition and maintain the wines of the Château de Haute-Serre as one of the references of the Cahors appellation.
The wines of Château de Haute-Serre are produced with the Cahors appellation, mainly with Malbec, the main grape of the region. These are red wines suitable for aging. The work is meticulous, with quality material to guarantee you elegant and quality wines.
The winery is located at the heart of the property and contains enough vats to be able to make long vinifications as in the past. This especially allows to produce very robust red wines and especially of good aging.
Their wines are known for their finesse and elegance. You will be able to discover some of their vintages and perhaps even taste their sparkling Rosé brut "la Bellefleur de Haute-Serre", produced using the traditional method and 100% Malbec.
The Château de Haute-Serre and its occupants are pleased to welcome you in a recently renovated winery, enhanced by numerous works of art. Your visit will begin with a discovery of the cellar vineyards and will continue with a visit of the cellars. Finally, you will participate in a tasting of the 5 best vintages wines of the castle.
