About Domaine de la Ville Rouge

Located in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, on the left bank of the Rhône, Domaine de la Ville Rouge is a family-run wine estate founded by Paul Girard in 1919. Its expertise and passion for wine have been passed down from one generation to the next.

Since 2006, all the estate’s wines have been produced and bottled on site. The vineyard has been farmed organically since 2009, and biodynamic practices have been used since 2013, reflecting the family’s commitment to preserving nature and allowing each terroir to express its distinctive character.

  • A Trip to the Rhône Valley

Thanks to the Domaine de la Ville Rouge, where we had a wonderful time with the wine tasting and the tour—thanks so much to L'Abricotine...Clean, air-conditioned room... a warm welcome and an excellent meal?? The staff is always ready to accommodate your every need? I’ll be back?

  • VERY GOOD

A very high quality stay, a wonderful welcome at the Denis farm, with a host keen to make the stay as pleasant as possible. The restaurants gave us the opportunity to discover some excellent cuisine. The tour of the Ville Rouge was a pleasure, and we could feel the professionalism! Organized in advance, we had an excellent stay.

  • 3 fantastic days!

We spent 3 fantastic days! The accommodation at Mr and Mrs Dumaine's was top-notch, with a visit to the vineyard to boot... The reception in each of the restaurants was of the highest quality, as were the meals.... The visit to the Ville Rouge was very interesting, and the owner was very enthusiastic! In short, a stay to be recommended and, of course, to be repeated in another region.

  • Very good

Very good stay, very nice tasting especially at Domaine de la Ville Rouge where we were received like princes with explanations on their method of work, excellent cellar, I will return for new purchase. Restaurant : Le FARFADET and le QUAI we were delighted by their service and friendliness. However, I'd like to point out that at the JABOULET Ainé restaurant, by way of a gourmet meal, we were treated to a plate of charcuterie... which explains the 4 stars. Hotels: we stayed at Château de LEMPS, a magnificent site with period furnishings. The owners are very welcoming, with a wealth of culture and history. I would have spent hours chatting with them, thank you. And thanks also to VINOTRIP

  • Perfect

We spent 3 extraordinary days: accommodation at the ferme des dénis with a very warm welcome in a very friendly setting. The two visits to the Cave de Tain and particularly to the Domaine La Ville Rouge in Mercurol were very instructive and enjoyable, thanks to the availability and kindness of our hosts. As for the 3 restaurants, Le Farfadet, Le Vineum and Le Quai, we were expected, welcomed and delighted by both the food and the wines on offer. One small drawback: we also enjoyed a gourmet restaurant: Le Flaveurs in Valence: the food was excellent (bravo to the chef), but the welcome was disappointing and the service very long, especially as the air-conditioning was faulty. In short, Vinotrip's organization was of the highest quality. We recommend this service.

  • Perfect!

A great stay! Lodging at the Denis farm, extraordinary and very friendly hosts, the restaurants were also very good (a little downside for the quay, where we had to "claim" our glasses of wine at each course), the vineum just exceptional. The tastings and tours were brilliant, with a special mention for the Ville Rouge in Mercurol for the welcome, the tour and all the explanations, we had a great time. We'll do it again!

  • I recommend +++

Our weekend began at the Domaine de la Ville Rouge, with a 1-hour tasting in the tasting room. The owner is very professional in biodynamic viticulture, a pleasant moment. Night, evening meal and breakfast at Hôtel L'Abricotine (Mercurol), well located in a beautiful shady park, very clean, owner and staff adorable, I recommend +++, very good and good service. We'll be back for sure! Thank you all for your warm welcome.

  • To be recommended

Great stay. Charming welcome at the Croix du Verre estate and lovely large room. Tour of the estate and superb wine tasting. Very nice tasting at Domaine de la Ville Rouge. Very pleasant restaurants. Highly recommended meal at the Michelin-starred restaurant in Valence. A dream three days, two nights.

  • Excellent stay

A very warm welcome to the Croix du Verre estate. We enjoyed talking to Olivier and Maryline. They talk about their vineyards and wines with passion. The room was very quiet and clean, and the breakfast copious and varied, with a tasting of the house apricot juice. We really enjoyed the visit (and the wines) of the Domaine de la croix du Verre. The owner's visit and tasting of the Ville Rouge was interesting because of the specificity of their culture (biodynamic). It was very instructive for us in terms of this type of cultivation, with which we were unfamiliar. We also enjoyed the "Le Quai" and especially the "Vinéum" restaurants we visited. The food and wine pairings were of excellent quality. The Sunday restaurant did not seem as good in terms of quality and interest in relation to the weekend's theme, perhaps because we were full or because there was no wine and food pairing. Good organization by Vinotrip, the roadmap is well done and all reservations were made. What's more, we didn't feel any difference in our treatment in the restaurants between us and the other customers. We were very well placed.

First, a warm welcome at Domaine de la croix du verre. Olivier talks passionately about his terroir and his wines. Maryline welcomes us to her high-quality guest rooms. We were in the Marsanne, where blue and white create an atmosphere of calm and rest. Quiet at night, in the morning, traditional breakfast with home-grown produce. Try the apricot juice, excellent. The discovery of vintages, whether at the domaine de la croix du verre, where after the tasting, Olivier took us into his vineyards, or at the ville rouge where a charming young student spoke to us passionately about grape varieties and wines after an instructive tour of the cellars. The restaurants we chose were of good quality and made us feel very welcome. We were expected at all 3 of them, all very different, but all offering quality products (le Quai, on the banks of the Rhone, Vinéum and its excellent cuisine, le Farfadet, traditional cuisine and a family atmosphere). A visit to the Valrhona chocolate factory, a stroll through the vineyards to the Tain chapel and a visit to the palais du facteur Cheval rounded off this stay offered by our colleagues. Vinotrip's organization was excellent, and the itinerary well laid out. We recommend this trip.

  • Our Stay

An enchanting stay in the Tain area! Nicole and Paul at the Château de Lemps are lovely, the tours of the Tain wine cellar and the Domaine de la Ville Rouge were very informative, and the restaurants... absolute delights!!! Nothing but good times

  • Un Régal

Our accommodation was the Chateau de Lemps. Nicole and Paul du Tremolet are warm hosts, and the home-cooked meals are delicious. Oenologist Marie José Faure is extraordinary. Domaine de la Ville Rouge produces wonderful wines, and Audrey Girard gives fantastic explanations of the evolution of the estate, its dynamic organic culture and its wines. The restaurant Le Cerisier in Tournon is absolutely to be recommended. The quality and finesse of the dishes are extraordinary. Chabran is to be commended. We were delighted by the menu's surprising combinations. The Tournesol restaurant in Tournon is also a great stopover. In short, we were delighted and very happy with our stay.

  • The wines

Domaine de la Ville Rouge produces a diverse range of red and white wines, crafted with respect for nature and the expression of each terroir. The vineyards are farmed organically and according to biodynamic principles, while gentle, natural winemaking methods aim to preserve the character of the grapes and each vintage.
In the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, the vines grow on terraces of rounded pebbles mixed with red clay. The red wines, made from Syrah, offer aromas of red and black fruit, spices and pepper. The whites, produced from Marsanne and Roussanne, are rounded and expressive, with notes of yellow fruit and flowers.
The estate also produces a powerful and well-balanced Saint-Joseph red made entirely from Syrah, as well as a Saint-Joseph white. Finally, its IGP Drôme and Collines Rhodaniennes cuvées, grown on clay hillsides, offer fruitier, more floral and approachable styles.

  • Estate tour and tasting

During your visit to Domaine de la Ville Rouge, the winemaker will guide you through the estate and winery, explaining each stage of the winemaking process, from harvesting and fermentation through to bottling.

The experience ends with a friendly tasting of the estate’s wines. You will also receive a bottle of red wine to take home as a souvenir of your visit.
