About Domaine Henri Bourgeois
The story of Domaine Henri Bourgeois began in 1950, when Henri Bourgeois started growing just two hectares of vines on the hillsides of Chavignol, near Sancerre. At the time, the region was still relatively little known, but he believed in its potential and set out to produce high-quality wines under his own name.
His sons joined the estate in the 1960s, bringing new ambitions. Together, the family explored new terroirs, developed partnerships with other local winegrowing families, and helped build the reputation of Sancerre in France and abroad.
Today, the Bourgeois family continues this tradition, drawing on generations of savoir-faire to produce wines with a strong sense of place. The domaine has also expanded beyond France, creating Clos Henri Vineyard, an organic estate in Marlborough, New Zealand, in 2000.
In 2019, Domaine Henri Bourgeois was named among the World’s Best Vineyards, ranking 43rd in the first edition of this international list.

The wines
Domaine Henri Bourgeois is best known for its Sancerre wines, made mainly from Sauvignon Blanc for the whites and Pinot Noir for the reds and rosés. During your visit, you will discover how Sauvignon Blanc expresses itself across the different terroirs of the Sancerre appellation.
The domaine also produces red and rosé Sancerre, as well as wines from the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, located on the other side of the Loire. Its range includes fresh, easy-drinking wines such as Le Petit Bourgeois, alongside more complex cuvées such as d’Antan, Jadis and Étienne Henri, which reveal the character of the Central Loire vineyards. -
Staying and dining
The estate also welcomes guests at the Hôtel Restaurant Famille Bourgeois, a 3-star hotel set among the vineyards of Chavignol, just a few kilometres from Sancerre. The restaurant, La Côte des Monts Damnés, offers refined regional cuisine inspired by local produce, served for lunch and dinner. Domaine Henri Bourgeois has been awarded the 'Vignobles & Découvertes' label and received a Bacchus wine tourism award for its restaurant.
