Domaine Henri Bourgeois

Route de Menetou Ratel 18300 Chavignol Sancerre

  • History of the Henri Bourgeois Wine Estate

It all started in 1950, when Henri Bourgeois started cultivating 2 hectares of vines on the hills of Chavignol, a region unknown at that time. He made a bold bet to produce quality wines, to which he would give his name.

His sons joined the team in 1960 and with them new ambitions. They thus discovered new terroirs, developed partnerships with other families in the region, and later made themselves ambassadors for the reputation of Sancerre in France and abroad.

Today, and for 10 generations now, the Bourgeois family perpetuates the tradition and is committed to using the tradition and the know-how of its elders to develop wines of great character. In addition, the Domaine Henri Bourgeois decided, in 2000, to take a step forward by creating an organic vineyard in Marlborough in New Zealand.

In 2019, William Reed Business Media established for the first time the ranking of the 50-best wine Domaines in the world, based on 1,500 vineyards. And for this first edition, the Bourgeois family has managed to rank 43rd among the best vineyards on the planet.

  • Henri Bourgeois wines

Produced mainly from Sauvignon Blanc for white wines and Pinot Noir for red wines, the wines of Domaine Henri Bourgeois are authentic and of character. The Bourgeois family is committed to respecting the terroirs by offering you appellation wines with subtle aromas and excellently worked.

You can taste wines from the Sancerrois region, such as Pouilly-Fumé, a truly expressive wine with very fruity aromas, or even Sancerre Rouge or Sancerre Rosé.

You will inevitably find a wine that is made for you, among the range of thirsty wines (like Le Petit Bourgeois, cheerful and slippery) or among slightly more upscale cuvées (from Antan, Jadis, Etienne Henri), which express through modern vinifications the terroirs of the Center.

  • Accommodation and Restaurant

The estate also welcomes you at the Hôtel Restaurant Famille Bourgeois, a 3-star hotel in the heart of the Chavignol vineyards a few kilometers from Sancerre.

The gourmet restaurant la Côté des Monts Damnés offers regional cuisine around local products, for lunch and dinner.

  • Wine tourism at the estate

When you come to Sancerrois and more specifically to the Domaine Henri Bourgeois, you will participate in a guided tour of the Domaine and you will take part in a tasting of their different wines. Do not hesitate to leave with a bottle (or more!) as souvenirs!
