Discover Domaine Eric Louis in Sancerre

A family of winegrowers for several generations, Domaine Eric Louis welcomes visitors with passion and a warm smile for tours and tastings.

The estate’s story dates back to 1890, with a love of terroir passed down from generation to generation. Located in Thauvenay, Domaine Eric Louis covers 34 hectares of vines in the south-eastern part of the Sancerre appellation.

Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are grown with great care across a mosaic of vineyard plots, planted on flint clay, limestone and clay-limestone soils. The estate’s wines are crafted with precision and sensitivity, resulting in delicate, expressive cuvées.

Travellers' review - Eric Louis Wine Estate

  • An extraordinary experience

We were very pleasantly surprised by how well this trip was organized. Everything was perfect: the choice of the guesthouse "ô Refuge di'vin," where everything was perfect—the welcome, cleanliness, decor, comfort, amenities... The meal at Restaurant M in Cosne-sur-Loire was excellent, with a superb view of the Loire River. The next day, the wine-tasting class at Domaine Brochard was very interesting. The welcome at the estate was perfect, and the tour of the cellars at Domaine Eric Louis was also very good. The day ended with a lovely visit to the goat farm, followed by another tasting of Chavignol goat cheese. I highly recommend this experience.

  • Excellent WE

The visit to the Eric Louis estate was very interesting, thank you Mathilde. Dinner at the restaurant Le Chat was excellent, lots of surprises for our taste buds, well done to the chef of this excellent restaurant. Cécile and Cédric O refuge di'vin in Bannay gave us a very warm welcome. The visit to Domaine Brochart was also excellent, complementing the previous day's visit. A smiling welcome and very clear explanations for this oenology course. An excellent weekend suggested by vinotrip

  • A very successful weekend

We had an excellent stay in the Sancerrois region. The accommodation at the prieuré Saint Agnan is exceptional, the hosts are great and the setting is perfect. As far as the tours were concerned, the one at Domaine Eric LOUIS was very interesting, but I found the reputation of the wines to be overrated, except for the Cuvée Pauline. At Domaine HUBERT-BROCHARD, on the other hand, the tasting course was perfect and the wines well worth the detour. As for the restaurant suggestions, "Le chat" and "le coq hardi" were perfect.

  • Delighted!

We really enjoyed our stay with Vinotrip. The staff were all very welcoming, and the experience was truly enriching, especially with Marina from Domaine Eric Louis. I highly recommend Vinotrip, which organizes stays very well.

  • GREAT WEEKEND

Everything was perfect: - from the moment we arrived at the prieuré - an idyllic setting on the banks of the Loire, with a well-kept garden, a top-notch swimming pool (29°C despite the clouds), a cosy blue room, and top-notch breakfasts. - a 2-hour visit to the Eric Louis estate and a fabulous wine tasting session - visit to the goat farm, milking and tasting of different goat maturations - dinner at CHAT - oenology course at Domaine de BROCHARD - gourmet lunch at Léré (a stunning dessert!) In short, a great time, more than recommended!

  • a very pleasant stay

We started at the Éric Louis estate, where Marina's explanations of wine-making were very interesting. Unfortunately, the different wines we tasted didn't convince us - a matter of taste buds! We then visited the goat farm, where we enjoyed a wine and crottin tasting session. The prieuré St Aignan where we stayed is a real little haven of peace with a breathtaking view of the Loire! Véronique and Gilles are charming hosts and the breakfast is delicious. Dinner at the restaurant Le Chat, where the chef's love of cooking is evident in his dishes. An excellent culinary experience. And the place is very simple and friendly. Last but not least, a tasting at Hubert Brochard's where we had a very pleasant experience involving all our senses. We recommend this stay.

  • Excellent Stay

The visit to the Eric Louis estate was hosted by Mathilde. We congratulate Mathilde on her very clear explanations of how Sancerre wine is matured. We thank her sincerely for her pleasant approach and her smile. Dinner at the restaurant Le Chat was a great experience, with original and refined dishes. Well done to the chef of this excellent restaurant. The prieuré de Saint Aignan where we stayed is a magnificent residence with garden and swimming pool. The hosts are very thoughtful. The visit to Domaine Brochart was also excellent, complementing the previous day's visit. A smiling welcome and very clear explanations for this oenology course. An excellent weekend suggested by vinotrip

  • great weekend

We had a great stay. The visit with Eric Louis as our Mathide guide was pleasant and full of smiles. The only downside was the goat farm, which we visited but did not taste...... The prieuré is a true haven of peace, a magnificent residence. The CHAT was a delight for our taste buds and a delightful experience. The visit to Hubert Brochard's house was very instructive. We had the chance to talk to people who were warm, pleasant and passionate about their work. An excellent program.

  • Peaceful stay.

Le Prieuré saint Aignan is very pleasant, calm and soothing. The goat farm is interesting. The cellars of domaine Éric louis are very welcoming and domaine Hubert brochard a little more improvised but satisfying.

  • Nice discovery

We had a very pleasant stay. At the Éric Louis estate, great welcome and good tasting. La chèvrerie, super. We slept at the Prieuré st Agnan, very good welcome, the house is magnificent and breakfast was top notch. And last but not least, Domaine Hubert Brochard, great welcome and tasting. A pleasure to do again.

  • Excellent stay

To sum up, if I had to rate each service: Eric Louis 5/5 (thanks Mathilde). La chèvrerie 3,5/5. Le prieuré 5/5 ( magnificent place). Le chat 4/5 ( very nice little restaurant when the weather's nice with the terrace outside). Hubert-Brochard 2,5/5 ( complicated visit with a new guide who seemed lost ).

  • Superb weekend

Superb weekend in and around Sancerre. Very warm welcome, very interesting guided tour and pleasant tasting in a good atmosphere at Domaine Eric Louis. Hotel + meal in a magnificent setting (panoramic view of the sunset). I recommend without hesitation.

  • Very nice stay

A warm welcome every step of the way. Winemakers Henri Bourgeois and Eric Louis are very helpful with explanations and tastings. It's a real pleasure to discover all these wines from a region that would benefit from being better known throughout France. The restaurants and the priory were also great fun, and here too you'll find a warm welcome. The chèvrevie, although interesting, is a step down in terms of service compared to the rest, but is still worth the detour. Definitely worth a visit.

  • Great gift weekend

This gift weekend was magnificent. Excellent wine tasting at Henri Bourgeois, a visit to the Chèvrerie and a very instructive Chavignol tasting at La Tour. Dinner at the restaurant La Gaieté Léréenne was extraordinary, and the accommodation in a gite in the 1930s was breathtaking. The whole experience was rounded off by a visit to Eric Louis's cellar on Sunday, with impeccably explained explanations of wine ageing. A wonderful weekend that I recommend to everyone.

  • Very nice stay

Very good stay. The cellar visit to the Eric Louis estate was very well organized and very interesting. The visit to the goat farm was also very interesting. The place where we're staying is very pretty and a very good restaurant in the evening.

  • Gabriel B COUPLE STAY

Excellent weekend in a beautiful region to discover. The Prieuré is a magical place and the welcome was very warm. Very satisfied with the welcome and our guide in the Eric Louis cellars. Restaurant LE CHAT very good and very warm welcome too. All in all, a very good weekend with quality services!

  • Good formula with some nice surprises

Stay as described. Good timing & choice of locations. Highly commendable for the Prieuré gîte. - Visit to the Eric Louis winery: very nice presentation with lots of details and full tasting. - Chèvrerie de la Tour: nice & informative. - Bistrot de la Côte des Monts Damnés: Good and to the point. A bit sad on Sunday evening as we were alone. - Overnight at the magnificent Prieuré Saint-Agnan: we slept superbly. Very good breakfast and welcome. On the banks of the Loire, ideal for a jog or walk. - Cave d'Henri Bourgeois: without a visit to the cellar, we were treated to a royal tasting! We extended our stay with a second night at Le Prieuré, a visit to the Maison des Sancerre (fun, informative and the store is full of treasures) and two other winemakers (Alphonse Mellot in Sancerre & Pierre Prieur in Verdigny) with two extra-ordinary tastings! A magnificent region full of riches to discover.

  • The wines

Domaine Eric Louis offers a wonderful introduction to the diversity of the Centre-Loire wine region. Visitors can discover wines from appellations such as Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Menetou-Salon, Quincy and Châteaumeillant, as well as Crémant de Loire and Vin de France cuvées.

  • Wine experiences in the vineyard

Domaine Eric Louis offers several wine tourism experiences, from simple tastings to cellar visits. The tours and tastings included in Vinotrip stays are accompanied by the local goat’s cheese, Crottin de Chavignol — a classic and delicious food and wine pairing.
