Domaine Hubert-Brochard: history and terroir

The history of Domaine Hubert-Brochard began in 1900 in Chavignol, in the heart of the Sancerre appellation. For several generations, the family has worked to reveal the richness and diversity of the Centre-Loire terroirs.

The estate’s vineyards cover two emblematic appellations: Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. The vines grow on the main soil types of the Sancerre region — terres blanches, caillottes and flint — each bringing a distinctive expression of Sauvignon Blanc, the area’s flagship grape variety. The domaine also grows Pinot Noir, used to produce elegant red and rosé wines.

Certified Haute Valeur Environnementale, Domaine Hubert-Brochard follows a careful, environmentally responsible approach to winegrowing, with close attention paid to soil health and the expression of each vineyard plot. This philosophy gives rise to modern, authentic wines that reflect the diversity of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé.

Travellers' review - Domaine Hubert-Brochard

  • A very successful weekend

We had an excellent stay in the Sancerrois region. The accommodation at the prieuré Saint Agnan is exceptional, the hosts are great and the setting is perfect. As far as the tours were concerned, the one at Domaine Eric LOUIS was very interesting, but I found the reputation of the wines to be overrated, except for the Cuvée Pauline. At Domaine HUBERT-BROCHARD, on the other hand, the tasting course was perfect and the wines well worth the detour. As for the restaurant suggestions, "Le chat" and "le coq hardi" were perfect.

  • a very pleasant stay

We started at the Éric Louis estate, where Marina's explanations of wine-making were very interesting. Unfortunately, the different wines we tasted didn't convince us - a matter of taste buds! We then visited the goat farm, where we enjoyed a wine and crottin tasting session. The prieuré St Aignan where we stayed is a real little haven of peace with a breathtaking view of the Loire! Véronique and Gilles are charming hosts and the breakfast is delicious. Dinner at the restaurant Le Chat, where the chef's love of cooking is evident in his dishes. An excellent culinary experience. And the place is very simple and friendly. Last but not least, a tasting at Hubert Brochard's where we had a very pleasant experience involving all our senses. We recommend this stay.

  • great weekend

We had a great stay. The visit with Eric Louis as our Mathide guide was pleasant and full of smiles. The only downside was the goat farm, which we visited but did not taste...... The prieuré is a true haven of peace, a magnificent residence. The CHAT was a delight for our taste buds and a delightful experience. The visit to Hubert Brochard's house was very instructive. We had the chance to talk to people who were warm, pleasant and passionate about their work. An excellent program.

  • Peaceful stay.

Le Prieuré saint Aignan is very pleasant, calm and soothing. The goat farm is interesting. The cellars of domaine Éric louis are very welcoming and domaine Hubert brochard a little more improvised but satisfying.

  • Nice discovery

We had a very pleasant stay. At the Éric Louis estate, great welcome and good tasting. La chèvrerie, super. We slept at the Prieuré st Agnan, very good welcome, the house is magnificent and breakfast was top notch. And last but not least, Domaine Hubert Brochard, great welcome and tasting. A pleasure to do again.

  • Excellent stay

To sum up, if I had to rate each service: Eric Louis 5/5 (thanks Mathilde). La chèvrerie 3,5/5. Le prieuré 5/5 ( magnificent place). Le chat 4/5 ( very nice little restaurant when the weather's nice with the terrace outside). Hubert-Brochard 2,5/5 ( complicated visit with a new guide who seemed lost ).

  • Visit and tasting at the estate

During your visit, you will discover the estate’s know-how and its passion for the terroirs of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. The tour ends with a tasting of selected wines, served with Crottin de Chavignol goat’s cheese — a truly authentic Sancerre experience.
