History of the Domaine Trapet

The history of Domaine Trapet is closely linked to Gevrey-Chambertin and the great terroirs of Burgundy. In May 1919, Arthur Trapet bought his first parcel of vines in Chambertin. Since then, generation after generation, the Trapet family has continued to bring this exceptional Pinot Noir terroir to life.

The soils here are remarkably complex. Lower on the slope, marl-limestone and clay soils bring power and depth, while the higher, lighter marl soils help slow the vine’s growing cycle and contribute to the balance of the wines.

Today, the estate continues its story between Burgundy and Alsace. Jean-Louis and Andrée Trapet have played a key role in shaping the domaine through their commitment to biodynamic farming, with the aim of preserving the soils and allowing each terroir to express itself fully. The new generation, represented by Pierre and Louis Trapet, carries on this family heritage with the same high standards.

  • Burgundian weekend

A very rewarding and enjoyable weekend. A most charming chambre d'hôte with a host who took great care and was extremely kind. A very interesting oenology course and an oenologist who knows her job well and distills it with passion. However, we had to run after her presentation (or even leave before the end) to continue our discovery of Burgundy and its fine wines. Perhaps we should review the timetable so that we can take full advantage of every moment. A very high quality meal at Maison Trapet, with top-notch and extremely friendly staff. Visit to Manuel Olivier with Laurent as sommelier, also top-notch and very friendly. Dinner at the Ermitage restaurant. Not very pleasant at first, with a feeling of being relegated to the background because we were the "Vinotrip", but the atmosphere relaxed and the end of the meal was rather pleasant. Visit to the Trufferie. It was great to see Taïga working with Nicolas (his master). A presentation of the work and the truffle with a lot of humor and sympathy. A very good meal, but a little less quality for our taste than when we visited in 2022. All in all, a very good weekend, worth repeating.

  • Discovery Trip to Burgundy

We really enjoyed our stay in Burgundy. First and foremost, the accommodations at La Maison Rouge, with Karine’s very warm welcome—not to mention Volnay. The tour of the vineyards in Couchey, with detailed insights from a passionate oenologist. The meal at Maison Trapet in Gevrey-Chambertin was very enjoyable. Our visit to the Maison de la Truffe with Nicolas and his truffle-hunting dog, followed by an excellent truffle-themed meal. The wine tasting of various wines at Manuel Olivier’s. Everything was perfect and very well organized, with a warm welcome every time.

  • We enjoyed this superb weekend

We enjoyed this superb weekend in Beaune and the Haute Côte de Nuits: quality, varied services. Very friendly and professional staff. Special mention to Maison Trapet and Or des Valois. The slot with the oenologist could have been a little longer, so informative was this exchange and so competent and passionate was the person! We highly recommend this weekend in its entirety. Thank you Vinotrip!

  • Superb weekend

Superb weekend of relaxation in a magnificent region, surrounded by passionate people. "La maison rouge": a very welcoming, well-kept bed and breakfast of the highest standard, very convivial. The restaurants "La Gremelle" and "Chez Christian Quenel", each with their own specificity, but with a quality of service that is much appreciated (a plus for Chez Quenel). At Clos Bourgogne, an oenological workshop in the vineyards, followed by a small tasting session, all very well organized and educational. Meal at Maison Trapet: what can I say, you let yourself be carried away by the food and wines. No questions asked, just enjoy. Tasting at Manuel Olivier's, a small downside: in our opinion, too many wines were "tasted" in too short a time, with too few explanations. Nevertheless, a very warm and friendly welcome. Last but not least, the truffle farm was great, not because it's all about truffles and truffle fame, but simply because we were welcomed by passionate people who passed on their passion through their explanations and cooking. All well orchestrated.

  • 3-day weekend

We arrived at lunchtime on Friday at the Maison TRAPET, where we were greeted with a pleasant welcome and a simple but high-quality meal (tasting of 4 wines). Reception in the gîte "la maison rouge" for 2 nights, very friendly owner with a warm welcome. Spacious room, clean and pleasant surroundings. Evening meal at LA GREMELLE, very pleasant surroundings, a quality meal we thoroughly enjoyed. Oenology workshop at Clos du Bourgogne, with explanations from the vine to the glass of wine. We learned a lot as novices. On Sunday, at the Maison aux Milles Truffes, we met a passionate owner, and enjoyed our meal around truffles. To sum up, I'd recommend Vinotrip for its organization, quality of service and choice of activities and restaurants. We felt very welcome and privileged during our 3-day weekend with all the service providers.

  • Night Coast Stay

The weekend was good. The restaurants were very well chosen, as was the guest house. The visit to a truffle farm was a very good idea. As for the lunch at Maison Trapet, I'd like to thank you a thousand times over, it was the best visit of the weekend, the Burgundian gastronomy, Damien's advice on the wines, the tastings, a 1999 Grand Cru, an unforgettable moment, thank you for this address.

  • Henri.L stay from May 2 to 4, 2018

Excellent stay with no false notes, from Catherine's welcome in the pigeonnier of the maison rouge, with its comfort and quality breakfast, to the visit of the Or des Valois on the last day in the château d'entre deux monts. In between, the marathon day in Gevrey with a visit to the Clos de Bourgogne, lunch at Maison Trapet, a great moment of conviviality, tasting at Manuel Olivier in Nuits St Georges with Pascal at the top to discover the great vintages of the region, and the gastronomic dinner at Simon's. Perfectly organized, including a visit to the Hospices de Beaune.

  • Excellent weekend in Burgundy

At the end of May 2016, we spent our weekend in Burgundy. Lodging at Maison Rouge, we were very well received, very pretty room, comfortable, owners attentive and available, too bad the weather prevented us from enjoying the lovely pool... As for discovering the wines of Burgundy, our oenology course, Madame Lanaut is a passionate person who passes on her knowledge admirably, as is Madame Manuel, and Damien at Trapet. At Château Corton, we visited a magnificent cellar and even tasted some of the great vintages in a convivial atmosphere, a very beautiful place... The discovery of the cellarer's trade and the search for truffles with the dog were also fabulous. As for the meals, nothing to say, we were very well received at "La Gremelle", the meal was very good, at the Trapet house, a real Burgundian meal in a very beautiful residence steeped in history and nestled in an equally magnificent village, "chez Simon", a gastronomic meal with a warm welcome, at the truffle farm, discovery of dishes cooked with truffles from aperitif to dessert with the advice of our very friendly host. In short, everything was perfect, from the organization to the welcome. No unpleasant surprises. Just happiness... An experience to be repeated... Without moderation!

  • Stay in Burgundy

We've just finished our stay in Burgundy. Que du bonheur!!!! Our guest room was tastefully decorated and as warm as our hostess Catherine. The whole of our stay around wine and truffles was divine. La Gremelle, the table d'hôte at Trapet, the restaurant Simon, the tasting at Manuel Olivier and finally the truffle tasting !!!! Friendly people !!!! Thanks again to our children for this wonderful gift.

  • Quality stay

We've just returned from our "fork and corkscrew" tour of Burgundy. We were won over by the quality of all the services, from the couple at the Maison Rouge to the various wine receptions (Mme Lanaut at Clos Vougeot, Sophie at Manuel Olivier, Damien Trapet) and gastronomic events (restaurant La Gremelle, then Simon's, and finally the remarkable welcome at La Truffière). This exceptional program delighted our taste buds, and we rounded it off with a visit to the Hospices de Beaune. We'd like to congratulate you on the quality of this program, which we'll be recommending to others.

  • The wines

Domaine Trapet is renowned far beyond Burgundy for its Chambertin and Gevrey-Chambertin wines. The estate has an outstanding collection of vineyards, including Grand Cru and Premier Cru plots, all farmed with deep respect for the terroir and according to biodynamic principles.

  • Lunch at the estate

Maison Trapet is keen to share its love of vines and wine with visitors. Now also involved in wine tourism, the estate offers a table d’hôtes experience where guests can enjoy its wines over an excellent lunch, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere by the fireplace.
