About Château Giscours

Renowned worldwide for the quality of its wines, Château Giscours is a Third Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification and one of the great estates of the Margaux appellation. Located in the village of Labarde, at the heart of the Médoc, the château combines a rich history with an exceptional vineyard setting.

The estate’s origins date back to a fortified keep built in 1330. By the 16th century, Giscours had become a recognised wine estate, with its first vines planted in 1552 by Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy Bordeaux merchant. Over the centuries, its wines gained a strong reputation and were even served to King Louis XIV.

In 1995, Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma took over the estate and began a major restoration of the vineyard and buildings, helping Château Giscours regain its full prestige. The estate is also known for its beautiful landscaped park, designed by Eugène Bühler and considered one of the finest in the region.

Travellers' review - Château Giscours

  • Excellent stay in every respect

This stay exceeded our expectations. Thanks to Jade and everyone else for the wonderful welcome at the Chateau du Tertre. The suite was comfortable and beautifully decorated. The visit to chateau Giscours was a great addition too. We lost no time (only 2 hours) in the company of our friendly host Michael. The gourmet meal at Le Savoie restaurant was excellent. Great golf course and restaurant too. We can't wait to discover another of Vinotrip's stays.

Instructive tour of the Château de St Ahon, including a tasting session. Côté Jardin: ordinary cuisine. Melle Margaux chocolate factory: we were a little disappointed because we thought we would have seen how the chocolates were made. Château du Taillan very good report on wine making, very interesting with tasting. . Château Giscours guest room impeccable and very good breakfast. We were very well looked after throughout the tour, although the time between each activity was a little short. I recommend this stay for wine and chocolate lovers.

  • The wines

Château Giscours benefits from an outstanding Margaux terroir, located in the villages of Labarde and Arsac. Its gravel soils play an essential role in the ripening of the grapes, reflecting sunlight during the day and retaining warmth at night.
Today, the Giscours estate covers 300 hectares, including 93 hectares within the Margaux appellation. Alongside its Grand Cru Classé wine, the château also produces a second wine, La Sirène de Giscours, mainly from the estate’s younger vines.

  • Wine experiences at Château Giscours

Château Giscours offers private tours and tastings, giving visitors the chance to discover the estate, its vineyards, vat rooms and barrel cellars. Throughout the visit, guests learn more about the château’s history, winemaking traditions and the character of its Margaux wines.
The château also offers three beautiful guest rooms set in the former stables, each with air conditioning, a private bathroom and sweeping views over the vineyards.
