Château Desmirail wines

The characteristics of the wines are explained by a unique microclimate between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde Estuary, and an exceptional terroir: gravel carried by watercourses that have the property of accumulating the heat of the sun, releasing it through radiation, and ensuring regulation of the water system.

The property covers an area of 40 hectares of vineyards. The grape varieties consist of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot.

The grapes are handpicked and vinified separately to allow the diversity of grape varieties and terroirs to express themselves. Barrel aging lasts for about one year, with the percentage of new barrels never being less than 30%.

Travellers' review - Château Desmirail

  • Excellent visit

Discovery of 3 châteaux Le Taillant / Baudan/ Desmiraille. 3 complementary visits. Warm and friendly welcome. Beautiful discovery, transmission of their passion, their know-how, and the history of their châteaux and the families who prosper their name. Thank you for the blind wine tasting at Château Baudan, a wonderful discovery. Well-organized, with one small downside: we regretted the lack of time between Château le Taillant and Baudan to visit and tour the historic Château le Taillant. Perhaps 1 château in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. Lunch at Le Savoie was perfect, a top-quality gourmet restaurant. We had a great time in the sunshine.

  • Excellent visit

Excellent visit to the 3 châteaux ( Le Taillan , Baudan et Desmirail ) with very good organization (very good lunch at the Marquis de Terme restaurant ) . Very interesting guides, with a special mention for Chateau Desmirail, which took its time: we learned a lot ...

  • Top day!

Thank you Vinotrip for a superb day discovering the Médoc. Three complementary visits to different estates where we were very well received. Our guides gave us excellent explanations of the work they have done or are doing in their vineyards. Special mention for the blind tasting at Château Baudan. Superb underground cellars at Château du Taillan. And a fine discovery of a Margaux grand cru classé at Château Desmirail. We also had a particularly good lunch at Le Savoie restaurant.

  • LE TAILLAN/BAUDAN/DESMIRAIL/MARQUIS DE TERME

A beautiful day. The first tasting at around 10am was accompanied by walnuts; a small piece of bread for the others would have been welcome. The 3 visits complemented each other, and I particularly enjoyed the visit to Chateau Baudan by one of the owners, a winemaker, as well as the blind tasting presented in the form of a game. The restaurant was very good, despite the lack of choice on the menu. Would recommend.

  • CHÂTEAUX DU TAILLAN/BAUDAN/DESMIRAIL

Thank you for these superb visits to castles and buildings steeped in history, for these very interesting explanations (well done to you, ladies, guides of the day), for these delicious tastings and these good times of conviviality. Lunch at the Marquis de Terme restaurant was delicious. The service was impeccable and the setting magnificent. It was a great day out and I'd definitely recommend it.

  • Le Taillan/Baudan/Desmirail/Marquis de Terme

A great time of sharing, conviviality, educational without excess and interactive. With an infectious good mood. The Marquis de Terme restaurant, a fine place to dine, but poor reception and service.

  • Visit to Saint Ahon castle

We started with a visit to the Château du Taillan. Super interesting: warm welcome, tour and pleasant hostess. We finished with Château Desmirail. This really is a must. An enthusiastic, charismatic guide and magnificent surroundings.

  • Very nice stay

We had a very pleasant stay, visiting 3 different castles and learning a lot. The guides were pleasant and friendly, and very knowledgeable. Meals at the Gare Gourmande and the Table de Créon were fine and very good (a little light at the Gare Gourmande, the main course lacked starch). The night at Clos du Prince was perfect (air-conditioned room). We took part in the varietal and blending workshop, and loved it! It's great to be able to take home a bottle of wine and assemble it ourselves! The only downside to the 2 days was that the châteaux were far apart, so we had to drive a long way. What's more, we bought some wine from the Desmirail estate, which we paid more for than the same bottle seen on sale at Château de Camarsac!

  • A very good weekend

All in all, a very pleasant experience. The only downside was Château Desmirail, where the young guide was not very efficient and the welcome was rather distant. The rest is wonderful: Gare Gourmande: TOP, Château de Camarsac: TOP.

  • Excellent stay

The Château Desmirail manager was perfect, but so were the two young ladies who looked after the other 2 châteaux: their explanations were clear. Really perfect. Thank you, we'll be back.

  • Very pleasant stay and warm welcome

From the very first phone call, I was very pleasantly advised. Our stay took place at the end of October, and we were lucky enough to be able to discover the area on our own. We started at Château Desmirail, where we visited the winery and received a great explanation of all the stages involved in vinification and maturation, then had the pleasure of tasting the estate's wines. We then ate in Margaux, where the meal was very good and the welcome just as good. We then headed for Château de la Tour de Bessan, where we discovered a modern estate. The person who gave us the tour then taught us how to taste a wine and, above all, we were made aware of blending, a wonderful discovery. In the evening, we dined and slept at Clos du Prince, a wonderful place with a warm welcome. Finally, the next day, we discovered the Château de Camarsac, where we were again warmly welcomed. The person in charge showed us around the vineyard and the work in the vines, and then we had a historical tour of the château with all its twists and turns. These 2 days were marvelous, rich in discoveries, the meals were all excellent, and above all we were received like "princes" everywhere. However, as we didn't have a GPS, it was difficult to find Château la Tour de Bessan and Clos du Prince. Either a better road sign, or an indication in the travel documents would be a plus. Thank you for the wonderful stay you planned for us.
