The Wines of Château Paloumey
Located in Ludon-Médoc, in the southern part of the Haut-Médoc appellation, Château Paloumey lies in one of the great winegrowing areas of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The estate’s vineyard covers 34 hectares.
As in much of the Médoc, the vines grow on gravelly soils made up of gravel, sand, pebbles and clay. They benefit from an ideal environment for winegrowing, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde Estuary.
Château Paloumey belongs to the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc family, a classification that recognises estates known for the quality, consistency and distinctive identity of their wines. Long recognised as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, the estate was promoted in 2025 to Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, the highest level of this classification. This distinction rewards the estate’s long-term work, precise winemaking and commitment to high-quality, sustainable viticulture.
Château Paloumey’s wines are mainly based on the classic Médoc grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Through careful plot selection and precise blending, the estate produces balanced, elegant and expressive wines, marked by pure fruit, fine tannins and excellent ageing potential.

History of Château Paloumey
The name Paloumey comes from Gascon and means “the place where wood pigeons pass”, a reference to the migratory birds that cross the Médoc skies every autumn.
Château Paloumey has a remarkable history, marked by near disappearance followed by an impressive revival. In the 19th century, the estate belonged to the wine merchant Octave Dupuy and covered 35 hectares. Already recognised for the quality of its terroir, it was mentioned in 1868 in the famous guide Bordeaux et ses Vins.
However, phylloxera and the two World Wars severely weakened the estate. By the mid-20th century, the vines had been uprooted, leaving only the traditional Médoc country house.
In 1989, the Cazeneuve family set out to bring Paloumey back to life. The soils were carefully studied, the vineyard was replanted, and new cellars were built to support the estate’s revival. Since 2015, Pierre Cazeneuve has been at the helm, continuing its development with a strong focus on the environment. Committed to organic winegrowing, Château Paloumey is now a fine example of revival in the heart of the Haut-Médoc.

Wine Experiences
Château Paloumey offers two complementary experiences to discover the wines of the Médoc: a guided tour and tasting, and a blending workshop.
With the “Terroirs 3 Wines” tour, you explore three emblematic appellations: Haut-Médoc, Moulis-en-Médoc and Margaux. The visit gives you a clearer understanding of terroir as you walk through the vines, before discovering the key stages of winemaking in the barrel cellar.
The experience ends with a guided tasting of three wines from three different appellations: Château Paloumey from Haut-Médoc, Château La Garricq from Moulis-en-Médoc and Château La Bessane from Margaux.
The blending workshop takes you to the heart of one of Bordeaux’s essential winemaking skills. You taste Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon separately to identify their individual characteristics, before creating your own blend. Fun, educational and private, this 1.5-hour workshop offers a hands-on introduction to the balance, structure and personality of great Bordeaux wines.
